CGC Cards Registry Featured Set: 2022 Topps Series 1 Home Field Advantage
Posted on 11/03/2025
Opening Day for the 2025 MLB regular season is March 27, with 28 of the 30 major league teams taking the field to begin their campaigns. As is customary, Topps recently released their flagship Series 1 baseball card set that coincides with the start of the season. Collectors have eagerly been ripping open packs of the newest Topps cards, chasing hits and their favorite players.
Arguably the most popular non-autographed insert found within the flagship set is the Home Field Advantage inserts, which debuted just a few years ago in the 2022 Topps Series 1 set. The surprise inclusion of these rare cards added a case-style hit to a series known for its stacked lineup of common inserts. Collectors flocked to the new cards, as the Home Field Advantage inserts have become a coveted addition to the flagship series ever since.
CGC Cards is revisiting the first-ever batch of the inserts through CGC Cards Registry set owner TNewhart12's 2022 Topps Home Field Advantage set. TNewhart12 compiled a complete set of all 10 original cards that feature a superb lineup of MLB All-Stars throughout.
When Topps first released its checklist for the 2022 Topps Series 1 cards, it didn't include any information pertaining to the new Home Field Advantage inserts. Therefore, collectors were pleasantly surprised as they came across the newest addition to the flagship baseball series, likely recognizing the possible inspiration for the cards.
Around six years prior, rival card makers Panini introduced one of their most popular inserts to date called Downtown inserts. These rare inserts feature colorful artistic renderings of landmarks and other items that represent either the player themselves or the team and city they play in. The Home Field Advantage inserts share many similarities, with each card featuring a foil design that includes a collage of landmarks and local symbols connected to each team's city.

The fronts also include a small Topps logo at the top left, no borders around the edge and a banner at the bottom says Home Field Advantage and contains the player's name. The back side of the cards feature a much simpler design, including a symmetrical border, the player's name, team name, position and a short biography.
The 2022 Topps Series 1 Home Field Advantage inserts are made up of 10 All-Stars and are numbered #HA-1 through #HA-10. In order, they include Fernando Tatis Jr., Ronald Acuna Jr., Bryce Harper, Juan Soto, Mike Trout, Pete Alonso, Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, Buster Posey and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. TNewhart12's complete set of these cards received grades of no less than CGC 9, including a pair of CGC Gem Mint 10s, with four cards earning the coveted Top Pop designation.

In addition to the standard Home Field Advantage subset that features current MLB stars, Topps also created the Legendary Home Field Advantage subset, which is not included in this Registry Set. The Legendary series is a separate subset that highlights 10 MLB stars of the past, which are numbered #LHA-1 through #LHA-10. In order, they include Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken Jr., Ken Griffey Jr., Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Nolan Ryan and Ted Williams.
