Artist Proof Black Lotus Certified by CGC Cards Being Offered in October Heritage Sale
Posted on 11/10/2023
An Artist Proof Black Lotus certified by CGC Cards™ is turning heads in an ongoing Heritage Auctions sale. The Power Nine rarity is just one of many CGC-certified cards in Heritage’s Trading Card Games Featuring Funko Pop! Signature Auction, which is set to end October 20-21, 2023.
The Black Lotus, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Editon Beta Artist Proof is graded CGC 8.5 (lot 36023). Bidding has already reached $50,000 more than a week before the sale. A Beta Black Lotus is highly collectible by itself — only 3,300 copies of each rare are thought to have been printed in the Limited Edition Beta set, including Black Lotus. An Artist Proof, however, is much more elusive, because they were printed during Beta Edition’s design phase. There are only four examples in the CGC Cards Population Report, with none graded higher.
Also featured in the sale is a Lugia, Pokémon (2000) Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 36078). Lugia is one of the most sought-after cards in the Neo Genesis expansion, with the 1st Edition variant crowned as one of the rarest and most expensive Pokémon cards in the hobby. Many adore Lugia as a character due to its reign over the three legendary birds of Kanto and its starring feature in Pokémon: The Movie 2000.
Other CGC-certified cards in the auction include:
- an Ancestral Recall, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Unlimited Edition graded CGC Pristine 10 (lot 36028)
- an Ancestral Recall, Magic: The Gathering (1993) Limited Edition Alpha graded CGC 8.5 (lot 36024)
- a Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set Unlimited Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 36074)

- a Chansey, Pokémon (1999) Base Set 1st Edition Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 36070)
- a Typhlosion, Pokémon (2000) Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 (lot 36081)
