CGC Cards Featured Card of the Month: Mishra's Workshop
Posted on 07/09/2023
Game: Magic: The Gathering
Set: Antiquities
Card: Mishra’s Workshop
What makes it special? When Antiquities was released, Magic: The Gathering players quickly took to a new style of deckbuilding and play using the cards that were provided in the new set. One of the more popular decks to build was called a “Workshop” deck — a deck completely based around Mishra’s Workshop.
Using Mishra’s Workshop, players could use the card’s extra three mana to play artifacts from within their deck to stall their opponents long enough to wear them down. Decks constructed this way relied on Mishra’s Workshop to work, because nearly the entire remainder of the deck would be made of artifacts that could only reliably be played with the use of Mishra’s Workshop’s ability.
Did you know? Mishra’s Workshop was the only card restricted by the DCI from the entire “Mishra’s” series in Antiquities. It was restricted in June 1994, then unrestricted in October 1997.
