Sports Cards and TCGs Graded by CGC Cards Realize Impressive Prices in July PWCC Sales

Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is collaborating with PWCC Marketplace to bring collectors weekly online auctions presented by PWCC that feature TCGs, sports cards and non-sports cards graded by CGC Cards™. The popular program offers numerous opportunities from across the card market, as collector interest continues to grow since the collaboration debuted in 2022.

On July 6, 2023, a 1939 Play Ball #92 Ted Williams graded CGC 9 sold for $99,000. The sale is the highest price realized by any CGC-certified card not only in July, but for any CGC-certified sports card offered through PWCC since the partnership was established. Also, on July 6, a 1910 E98 Set of 30 Ty Cobb (Red) graded CGC Gem Mint 10 sold for $34,800. The Cobb card is one of multiple CGC-certified pre-war baseball cards from the 1910 E98 Set of 30 that sold through PWCC in July. The legendary center fielder played for the Detroit Tigers for the majority of his MLB career, from 1905 to 1926. Cobb set 90 MLB records, with several still intact to this day.

Meanwhile, two Pokémon cards each realized over $7,000 on July 23. A Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set Holo graded CGC Pristine 10 sold for $7,800. The Base Set Charizard is one of the rarest cards in the Pokémon TCG. Because Charizard was such a popular card in 1999 and beyond, it is extremely difficult to find any in flawless condition today. There are just five Charizard Base Set — Unlimited Holo cards graded CGC Pristine 10 in the CGC Cards Population Report.

Additionally, an Alola Friends, Pokémon (2019) Japanese Sun & Moon – 401/SM-P Limited Collection Master Battle Set Promo graded CGC Pristine 10 realized $7,200. This promo card was only available in limited-edition Master Battle Collection products, which were sold in Japanese Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Center Online in 2019.

• a 1910 E98 Set of 30 Cy Young (Green) graded CGC 9 that realized $7,650 on July 6
• a 1954 Bowman #89 Willie Mays graded CGC 8.5 that realized $6,300 on July 9
• a 1948 Leaf #32 Warren Spahn graded CGC 8 that realized $5,400 on July 6

PWCC Marketplace continues to offer CGC-certified cards in their weekly, fixed and premium auction formats. On August 6, a Blastoise, Pokémon (1996) Japanese Base Set Holo graded CGC Gem Mint 10 sold for $564. Sell Your CGC-certified Cards on PWCC Marketplace!

PWCC Marketplace and CGC Cards have created a streamlined pathway to grading and selling through an operational partnership between the two companies. The grading and selling program is accessed via an online submission process on the PWCC website, and everything is managed through the PWCC Vault.

Cards sent to CGC receive priority grading and encapsulation through its third-party grading service for sports cards. Graded cards are returned to PWCC and immediately added to PWCC’s Auction Builder Curation Algorithm process, which optimizes cards for sale in upcoming PWCC Weekly Sunday Auctions.

Note: At the time these cards were graded, they were encapsulated with the original CGC Cards label. Starting July 11, 2023, CGC Cards began encapsulating cards with the new CGC Cards label.
