CGC-certified Trading Cards Fire Up March and April PWCC Auctions

Posted on 24/04/2023

Three Charizard cards from the early WotC era set the recent sales ablaze.

Three Charizard cards certified by CGC Trading Cards® soared to the top of the auction block in recent PWCC auctions. The popular fire-type cards were just a few of many CGC-certified trading cards graded through the partnership between CGC Trading Cards and PWCC Marketplace that sold in March and April 2023.

A Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition Holo graded CGC 8.5 realized $10,200 on March 26, leading the CGC-certified cards in the recent sales. It has sub-grades of 9 for Centering, 8.5 for Surface, 9 for Corners and 8 for Edges. Another Charizard, Pokémon (1999) Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition Holo, this one graded CGC 8, sold for $6,660 on April 2.

Meanwhile, a Charizard, Pokémon (2002) Legendary Collection Reverse Holo graded CGC 9.5 with sub-grades of 10 for Centering, 9 for Surface and 9.5 for Corners and Edges realized $4,080 on April 2. Wizards of the Coast released the Legendary Collection set as a callback to the Pokémon TCG’s first five sets. It was the first English set to introduce Reverse Holofoil prints: cards that featured holofoil patterns on every part of the card except the Pokémon’s art box. The Charizard Reverse Holo is one of the most valuable cards in the set.

PWCC Marketplace and CGC Trading Cards have formed an operational partnership to create a streamlined pathway to grading and selling cards online. This program is accessed through an online submission process on the PWCC website. Everything is managed through the PWCC Vault — there’s no need to manually fill out or print submission forms.

Cards sent to CGC Trading Cards through PWCC will receive priority grading and encapsulation. Graded cards are returned to PWCC and immediately added to the auctioneer’s Auction Builder Curation Algorithm process, which optimizes cards for sale in upcoming PWCC Weekly Auctions.
